Too Simple or Dead Wrong

Michael Masterson wrote something that resonated with me, and I realized that he had neatly articulated the way I feel about a lot of the "art guru" advice on the Internet: "I had gotten to the point where 80 percent of what I read about Internet marketing either (1) bored me because it was so simple, or (2) infuriated me because it was so obviously wrong." 1 Response to Too Simple or Dead Wrong

Nowadays everybody is taking a whack on how to sell art or simply writing cute articles on their point of view about the state of the art business and so on. That bores me. If you're a painter, paint. Occupy yourself on what you're really good at. The truth is that most really economically successful artist hardly have time to write about it, nor can they really articulate in a bullet pointed fashion how they made it. Each route is different for every artist, names like Romero Britto, Signor Alvar or Didier Lourenco comes to mind. I say find your niche and work it out with sweat and blood through trial and error and years of hard labor. You can't improvise experience. My market, in its majority, is the Puerto Rican/Latin American audience. I know how to talk to this group. That's what I am, that's what I do, that's what I'm good at. I have no business painting cute cottages, pet portraits, plein air or any other flavor of the month. Most artist that write blogs or articles about the mind set of selling art or how how-to ideas are just looking to get their name out there in hopes of selling their own art. Good luck with that approach. This was a good posting Clint. Thanks.
